The effect of verbalization on speaker identification of target voice

This study explored the effects of similarity verbalized information between target and distractor voices on speaker identification. Participants listened to voice, either described it using one three catego ries (“adjective-selection,” “adjective-rating,” or “free-description”) did not describe (Control). They then rat ed “the degree which voice sounded like person” for types stimuli: a high-similarity (verbalized was similar voice), low-similarity (verbal ized dissimilar voice). Results showed that in free-description category significantly higher than control group condition. These results suggest verbalization leads participants misidentify as person. Therefore, verbal overshadowing effect previous studies may have occurred because caused perceive person much leading them choose voice.
